Assessment |
Save
time by taking a pre-test before you take the course. The results of
the test will let you know what parts of the course you need to take.
A post-test is also available. You'll know how well you've mastered
the material once you've completed this test. |
| Exercises |
Gain
valuable hands-on experience. You'll work in the actual software application
with these exercises. |
| Questions |
True/false,
matching, and fill-in-the-blank questions are liberally included throughout
the courses, engaging you in the learning process. |
| Simulations |
Yet
another way to gain the hands-on experience you're looking for is
through the use of our unique task-based simulations. It may seem
like you're in the application, but you'll be safe within the bounds
of the course. The free and widely used Shockwave plug-in will enable
you to run these optional simulations. |
| Sample
Files |
Our
coding courses contain sample files that you can actually cut and
paste into a compiler. You'll be able to practice with these files
and save time by using them in a program of your own. |
| Click-to-continues |
Our
Click-to-continues will ensure that you'll be an active and engaged
participant in the course. |
| Bookmarking |
Aptlearning
intelligent client technology recognizes where you are throughout
a course. When you exit a course, your spot is bookmarked. The next
time you access the course, you will return to the same location within
the course. You dont need to remember either where you stopped or
how to return to where you stopped. |

Future
of e-Learning
John
Chambers, CEO, Cisco Systems Inc., the network hardware manufacturer,
recently observed: "The next big killer application for the Internet
is going to be education.? Education over the Internet is going to be
so big it is going to make e-mail usage look like a rounding error."?
Increasingly education over the Internet is also referred to as e-learning
or web-based training.? It delivers self-paced instruction anywhere
and at anytime.? It is presented over the Internet to browser-equipped
learners.? At this stage courses are mainly in the areas of IT and business
skills development.?
E-learning paces users to learn in units of 20-30 minutes followed
by questions before proceeding to the next unit.? Certificates of completion
are given as a user finishes a 3-6 hour course.? Assessments of a userís
aptitude to learn by this means can also be provided.
E-learning is already a major industry in the USA and is growing rapidly
due to its effectiveness and very low cost compared with conventional
training.? It is starting to take off in Australia.? The major driver
is the escalating cost to enterprises of class-based training as a means
of keeping employees up to date in a rapidly changing world.? Life long
learning, as individuals seek or have to change careers and manage their
ever more complex interests, is accelerating this demand.?? Increasingly,
the need to know exactly what is required for a specific task at anytime
anywhere will rely on e-learning systems of delivery.
Dr Don MacRae of Canberra-based APTLearning says "e-learning
already has several major advantages over conventional class-based training
led by an instructor."? Some of these advantages are outlined in
the table below.
The superiority of e-learning over conventional instructor-led training
will increase dramatically as the cost of bandwidth to households and
offices falls to a small fraction of todayís costs.? Users will access
video clips supporting any specific staement or instruction at the
click of a button or by voice command.? The best of educational communicators
will feature on these clips, as will animated-video illustrations and
interactive graphic displays.? Increasingly on offer will be the capacity
to "drill down" deeper and deeper into layers of explanatory
clips on any specific feature of instruction.?
The industry supporting the design, development and delivery of such
interactive learning materials will be massive.? Intense levels of collaboration
among research, educational, communications and multimedia enterprises
will be required for cities and regions to become major players in this
industry.? In this respect, Dr MacRae considers that "the advent of
TransACT, a provider of cable-based bandwidth to Canberra households
and businesses, has the potential to facilitate and accelerate this
collaboration among the wealth of research, educational, IT, communications
and multimedia enterprises already operating in Canberra."
If there are any doubts about this potential, then consider the assessment
of Peter Drucker, the redoubtable and world-renowned management thinker.?
Drucker recently predicted that US education spending would increase
dramatically beyond the current estimated US$1 trillion per annum.?
However, he said, "The growth won't be in traditional schools,
which currently take about 10% of the GNP (kindergarten through high
school, 6%; colleges and universities, 4%).? The growth will be in continuing
adult education.? Online delivery is the trigger for this growth, but
the demand for lifetime education stems from profound changes in society".??
