Summary:

This course explains the advantages of various network transmission media and the connectors used with these media. This course also explains the attributes and functions of common network elements.

Objectives:

After completing this course, students will be able to:
  • Compare common network transmission media, including UTP, STP, coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, and wireless
  • Discuss the conditions under which each transmission medium is appropriate
  • Compare IEEE standards for media types (10Base2 through 1000BaseX)
  • Explain common network elements such as simplexing, half- and full-duplexing, WAN and LAN, baseband and broadband, servers, workstations, hosts, and hub types
