Summary:

This course examines the four layers of the Internet architecture model, and defines common Internet protocols and their functions. It introduces key concepts of IP addresses and subnet masks, and provides an overview of TCP/IP diagnostic tools. It also examines the major types of internetworking servers and how they function on TCP/IP networks.

Objectives:

After completing this course, students will be able to:
  • Describe the Internet Architecture Model and various Internet protocols
  • Explain the routing process, including the Routing Information Protocol and the Open Shortest Path First protocol
  • Explain IP addressing and address classes
  • Identify and describe the functions and features of various server types
  • Describe how each type of internetworking server uses TCP/IP suite protocols
  • Describe access security features of an HTTP server
  • Define MIME and explain how MIME types are used by HTTP and mail servers
  • Describe the functions of DNS
